K-Pop

KPOP is a musical genre that consists of dance, pop, rap, hip hop, rock, and R&B music. K-POP, which stands for Korean popular music, is rapidly gaining popularity in Asia and North America among teens and young adults.  Originating in 1992, dance and rap music became popular because of Seo Taiji & Boys (a popular South Korean Band that was active starting from 1992 until 1996), which is viewed as the start of modern K-Pop. The increase of social media networks in the 2000s allowed access to fans to this unique and beautiful genre. The rise in media networks encouraged the Korean Wave, a rise in popularity and interest for South Korean entertainment that started in the 1990s.
